Research to the applicability of eHealth to improve geriatric rehabilitation at home with the ultimate goal of durable improvement of the participation of the patient.
The general expectation is that eHealth will play a big part in future health care. The growing number of elderly and the impending shortage of healthcare professionals increase the pressure on the quality, availability, and cost effectiveness of the healthcare system. eHealth seems to offer promising possibilities and may even provide part of the solution. However, there are many uncertainties in the use of eHealth, effect studies are missing, and it is developing at a faster rate than evidence can be produced.
eHealth also seems promising in geriatric rehabilitation (GR), which is in line with the position paper GR. To provide the patient with improved, durable care and have them remain independent in their own homes and continue participating in their daily activities, it is important to research the possibilities of eHealth for providing GR at home. This research will involve all relevant stakeholders and end-users of the technology to come to a widely supported result on how eHealth can improve GR at home. The ultimate goal is durable improvement of patient participation.
